SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir) grows as a natural mix of species across interior British Columbia and Alberta. The term is a commercial designation rather than a single-species name; because their characteristics are similar, they are grouped and sold together as SPF.

Most SPF ships as 2” dimension lumber and is widely used for building components and general construction. In particular, Economy Grade SPF is the lowest commercial grade and a cost-efficient option used for concrete forms, pallets, furniture parts, and temporary structures, etc. throughout Asia and the Middle East.
