Douglas Fir (scientific name: Pseudotsuga) grows along the Pacific Coast of North America, from British Columbia, Canada, to California, USA.
In Canada, it is divided into two types: Coast Douglas Fir and Interior Douglas Fir. Mature trees can reach up to 85 m on the coast, and 42 m inland.
Old-growth Douglas Fir from large, tight-grained logs has become increasingly valuable. Its strength and long, large-diameter lumber make it ideal for beams and other structural applications. It is also highly workable, making it widely used for flooring, windows, doors, and furniture.
